Lanarkshire College signs partnership agreement with Casablanca Chamber of Commerce to expand global reach

New College Lanarkshire (NCL) has expanded its global reach by signing a partnership agreement with the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce in Morocco.

The college is now looking forward to “expanding collaboration opportunities” in North Africa after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The partnership, which is NCL’s first in North Africa, will provide the opportunity to offer online learning to students in Morocco.

The relationship came about after Dr Hadi Fawzy, senior international manager for the Middle East and North Africa at Scottish Development International, introduced the college’s international team to the Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber was considering partnering with UK colleges offering English courses, as learning English is a top priority for many Moroccan companies.

Initially, NCL hopes to offer HNC and HND online courses in business management and ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses to students in Casablanca.

And in the future, the partners hope that more courses can be offered and that student and staff exchanges between the two countries can be set up.

The two parties came together via Microsoft Teams for a virtual signing event, where NCL Chief Financial Officer Iain Clark signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Hassane Berkani, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Casablanca.

Iain Clark told Lanarkshire Live: “I had the privilege and honor to sign this historic agreement.

“The Chamber of Commerce was very keen to partner with a Scottish college and offer English-speaking courses, as currently the majority of education in Morocco is in French.

“Offering HNC and HND level courses in business will provide Moroccan students with an articulation route to Scottish universities.”
