St. Regis Hotels & Resorts debuts on former Olympic site • Hotel Designs
Strategically located in the iconic Haitian center in the heart of historic Qingdao – overlooking Fushan Bay, the Olympic sailing site for the 2008 Olympics – the hotel is intended to delight the luminaries and taste makers of the city with its elegant design, refined craftsmanship and centuries-old signature rituals.
“We are very excited to extend our luxury footprint to one of the region’s most beautiful coastal towns with the launch of the iconic St. Regis brand, offering bespoke experiences designed for the most discerning travelers,” said said Henry Lee, president, Greater China, Marriott International. “The opening of the St. Regis Qingdao ushers in a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in this dynamic city and underscores our commitment to continuously expand in eastern China.
The arrival of St Regis in Qingdao follows a very public effort by Marriott International to expand the growth of its portfolio in Asia, following the opening by the group of its 70th hotel in Japan.
Occupying the 58th to 78th floors of the 369-meter-high Haitian Center, the St. Regis Qingdao is the region’s tallest hotel, captivating guests with panoramic views of the Yellow Sea and scenic coastal scenes.
Drawing inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage, acclaimed Singapore-based interior design firm LTW Designworks has subtly infused local Qingdao influences with the avant-garde aesthetic of St. Regis. This includes a crystal chandelier inspired by a legendary robe of golden thorns that Caroline Astor, mother of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV and dean of New York’s high society in the Golden Age, wore to one of his famous midnight dinners.
A large, brightly lit staircase provides the perfect setting for the famous St. Regis tradition of slashing a bottle of champagne to mark the transition from day to night. The backdrop for the grand staircase is a 74-meter-high atrium wall art that reflects the delicate traces left on the beach by the ebb and flow of the Yellow Sea.
The hotel has 233 rooms, including 30 luxury suites with spectacular ocean views. In each bedroom, the bedside plaque features camellia designs as a tribute to the official Qingdao flower, representing inspiration, integrity and romance. Tailored amenities, design stories and spectacular views combine to transport guests to a world of luxury and exquisite service. Guests will also enjoy the brand’s signature butler service, offering 24-hour look-ahead service and ensuring that each guest’s stay is personalized to their tastes and preferences.
The St. Regis Qingdao also invites its guests to embark on multisensory culinary journeys with exceptional presentations, memorable flavors and spectacular views at its five distinctive restaurants. Le Salon, located at 59e floor, offers an indulgent afternoon tea with panoramic seascapes. In spaces that combine contemporary chic with traditional charm, YAN TING serves authentic Cantonese cuisine made with the freshest local seafood. Social is an exciting all-day dining experience, with international delights for breakfast, as well as fresh local seafood and western grills on the lunch and dinner menus. The Carvery celebrates convivial dining in a classic New York steakhouse setting. In the evening, guests are invited to The St. Regis Bar overlooking Qingdao City and its charming night landscapes to enjoy handcrafted cocktails. St. Regis’ signature cocktail, Bloody Mary, receives an intriguing new twist using sparkling Qingdao beer essences, fresh local clams and fine sea salt and aptly reintroduced as ” GáLa Mary ”.
With a total of over 2,000 square meters of dedicated event space, the hotel offers venues and facilities for iconic gatherings and meetings. The Astor Ballroom, with an area of over 900 square meters, is the perfect setting for celebrations, events, galas and wedding banquets. The St. Regis Qingdao also offers a bespoke wedding planning service to help couples plan their unique dream wedding.
The exclusive St. Regis Spa transforms a traditional spa visit into an enjoyable social occasion with five treatment rooms, including the St. Regis Spa Suite, a private area for couples, families or small groups of friends to relax and enjoy tailor-made processing time together. The Celebration Bar is a joyful space of refined elegance serving the best champagne and sparkling cocktails. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the hotel’s well-equipped fitness center and indoor infinity pool with stunning views of the surrounding sea and sky.
“We are delighted to celebrate the debut of St. Regis Qingdao. As one of the most important destinations for business and leisure travelers in China, Qingdao now boasts one of the most iconic luxury landmarks, ”said Jennie Toh, Vice President, Marketing and Brand Management , Asia-Pacific, Marriott International. “We look forward to sharing Qingdao with customers through the prism of St. Regis’ glamor, sophistication and impeccable service when visiting the destination.”
